Specifying Work Log Attributes

Specifying Work Log Attributes

Using Worklog Attributes

Work logs can be categorized or enriched with additional information through the use of attributes. This structure ensures that work log entries are more detailed, organized, and reportable.

Before you can specify worklog attributes on the “Log work dialog” or “Log work custom field”, your Jira administrator should create attribute definitions using administration features.

Attributes can serve various purposes. For example, they can be used to:

  • Represent an invoice ID,

  • Specify the type of work performed (e.g., testing, development, etc.),

  • Differentiate between billable and non-billable time,

  • Track overtime hours.

The way attributes are used entirely depends on the needs of the project or organization.

Attribute Visibility in the Log Work Dialog

For a work log attribute to be visible in the “Log Work” dialog, it must first be defined in the add-on’s Administration section.

Once a work log attribute is configured in the Administration panel, it will appear in the work log dialog immediately below the Description field.

Mandatory Attributes

Depending on the configuration, certain attributes can be defined as mandatory for work log entries.

Mandatory fields are indicated with the standard asterisk (*) symbol next to their label.

For example, if the “Work Type” attribute is configured as mandatory, a work log entry cannot be saved without selecting a value for this field.
