Understanding Parent Issue Remaining Estimate Based on Sub-task Changes
The remaining estimate of a parent issue is calculated based on the remaining estimates of its sub-tasks. Updates to the parent issue occur only when there is a change in a sub-task’s remaining estimate. In certain cases, logging work on a sub-task does not affect the parent issue’s remaining estimate. The scenarios below describe when and why this behavior occurs.
Scenario 1: Sub-task Remaining Estimate Is Already 0
If a sub-task’s Remaining Estimate is already set to 0, logging additional work on that sub-task does not reduce the parent issue’s Remaining Estimate.
Since there is no remaining time left on the sub-task, WorklogPRO has no remaining estimate to deduct from the parent issue. As a result, the parent issue’s remaining estimate remains unchanged.
Scenario 2: Work Logged Using “Use Existing Estimate”
When work is logged on a sub-task using the “Use existing estimate” option:
The sub-task’s Remaining Estimate stays the same.
Because there is no change in the sub-task’s remaining estimate, the parent issue’s Remaining Estimate also remains unchanged.
In short, the parent Remaining Estimate is updated only when the sub-task’s Remaining Estimate is reduced. If the sub-task remaining time is already 0 or is not changed during work logging, the parent remaining time will stay the same.
