Logging Work for Other Users

Users with 'Edit all worklogs" permission can enter/update work logs for other users using WorkLogPRO's "Work Log Dialog". Note that this is not a WorkLogPRO permission and usual Jira Project permission.

If you have this permission for a project and if you select an issue from that project you will also see a new option, "Username" on the "Work Log Dialog". It is by default set to your own username, but you can select any other user as work log author. The entered work log will be automatically shown as 'edited' and if you hover on, it will show which user entered/updated that work log.

When entering a work log for another user using the WorklogPro dialog, the time zone information of the saved work log becomes the time zone of the user who is the actual user (author) for this work log.

If there are timesheet period restrictions, the current user should have exceptions for the restrictions not the actual (author) user. This is important, because logging work for other users is usually done for closed periods for their managers or someone responsible for consolidating/fixing worklogs. When they do that, usually the period is closed.

Here some other valid scenarios you may want to use this feature.

  • Vacation/Leave/Sickness: To ensure that the work done by an absent member is accurately reflected in the system.
  • For users who can't access the Jira: New members may not have a Jira account, or some team members may be off site for deployment for other reasons.
  • Correction/Consolidation: To rectify errors or discrepancies in work logs, such as inaccurately logged hours or wrong tasks.
  • Data migration: To ensure continuity and accurate record-keeping by re-logging certain tasks or activities on behalf of users when transitioning between project management tools.
