Countdown Field
Overview
The Countdown Field is a custom field designed to help teams track the remaining work time for an issue. It displays the number of working hours and minutes left until a specified end date, allowing users to monitor deadlines more effectively and prioritize tasks accordingly.
To ensure accurate countdown calculations, a custom working calendar needs to be configured. This calendar defines your team’s specific working days and hours, and the Countdown Field uses it to calculate the remaining time. Once a target date is selected, the countdown automatically updates based on the configured calendar.
Calendar Configuration
Before using this field, you have to create an instance of it in Jira. You can refer this short video showing how to create a custom field in Jira.
To set up a Countdown Field, navigate to its configuration page—accessible directly from the issue screen.
From there, choose a calendar using the dropdown menu and click Save. The countdown will then calculate remaining time based on the working hours defined in the selected calendar.

Countdown Configuration Options
Click the Countdown field on the issue screen to configure the target date for the countdown.
Countdowns can be configured using one of four parameters:
By custom date and time
By the end date of the sprint the issue is part of
By the release date of a fix version associated with the issue
By a date-based field of the issue
Simply choose the option that best fits your use case to set up the countdown logic. When an option is selected, the corresponding release date will be displayed.
Based on your selection, the remaining work hours until the target date will be displayed in hours and minutes.
